It is a common misconception that when you start your day, you immediately lose your sense of self. I have heard this a lot. In fact, I would say it’s one of the most commonly heard myths about anyone. But the reality is that we forget what we are doing, and when we do, we are reminded of our ego. The ego is that part of us that is aware of who we are, and we feel good about ourselves.
The ego also includes our self-regard, and if we can’t feel good about ourselves, then what do we think we are? We could, for instance, be afraid of failure because we have a sense of our own incompetence, or maybe we’re afraid of getting stuck in a situation that is going to break us, because it reminds us of who we really are.
The ego is the part of us that is constantly looking to improve our self-esteem. This is not to sound arrogant or uncool. The ego is a part of us that is always trying to fix self-esteem, and it is very important to be aware of this.
The ego is as important to us as our sense of humor or our sense of self-worth. If we don’t have our ego, we’ll never be who we are, because it is that part of us that is constantly trying to improve. It is the part of us that is always searching for the thing that will make us feel more confident and secure.
This week’s episode of the podcast The Real Deal was all about the ego, and it is worth taking a look at because there’s a very good chance you yourself are somewhere along the way. If you are in the midst of a process of self-improvement, you may feel that you’re not doing a good job of it. That’s normal—the ego is just there, making sure you are doing a good job.
In the podcast, we asked two real women, one a psychologist and the other a beauty consultant, how they were going about self improvement. Both said that they were trying to find the thing that would make them feel more confident. One of the psychologist’s was an entrepreneur who was trying to take her business to the next level in such a way that her employees were going to feel more confident. The other was a beauty consultant who was going to work on her own self-improvement.
The thing is, we all don’t have the same thing. The psychologist might be trying to get to the next level by increasing her confidence; the beauty consultant might be working to increase her confidence in her own abilities, but neither are really trying to be more confident.
The thing is, the people whose confidence is being increased (the beauty consultant and the entrepreneur) are both on ego beauty. They want to feel more confident, but are not really trying to be more confident. They are being more confident, but the other wants to feel more confident. Both are doing what they think will make them feel more confident. But they are not really trying to be more confident. The psychologist is trying to do her thing, which is to make her employees feel more confident.
This is an area where we see a lot of confusion and resistance. I think a lot of companies are confused about how much they should be trying to make their employees feel more confident. For some they want to make their employees feel more confident, but for others they really want to make their employees feel more confident. They really want to feel more confident, but they are not really trying to be more confident.
This is an area where I think we’re stuck in a lot of confusion. For some, they want to feel more confident, but they are not really trying to be more confident.
